Sky Living has bought the UK rights to Ringer, the US drama that marks Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to a leading TV role for the first time since 2003.

The 13-part series stars Gellar as recovering alcoholic Bridget, a woman on the run who takes over her identical twin sister Siobhan’s life after she mysteriously disappears – only to find out she was also leading a dark and dangerous existence.

Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd plays Siobhan’s husband, who becomes suspicious of his new wife’s behaviour.

The BSkyB-owned entertainment channel has signed a multi-year deal with CBS Studios International to air the show in the UK soon after its debut on US network CW on 13 September. Continue Reading

Exciting new details have emerged about Sarah Michelle Gellar’s new CBS series, Ringer, which sounds potentially even more intriguing than the goings on in Buffy‘s old Sunnydale universe.

If her pilot is picked up, Sarah Michelle will star as twin sisters, Bridget Cafferty and Siobhan Marx. Bridget, we’ll learn, is a recovering addict who is about to testify in court against a dangerous murderer. The morning of the trial, she slips away and goes on the run from the FBI. With no where else to go, she reaches out to her estranged sister, Siobhan, who seems to have it all:  money, clothes, a ritzy Upper West Side apartment and a loaded, hot hubby named Andrew.

Soon after Bridget contacts her sister, Siobhan commits suicide — or so it seems.

This twist of fate allows Bridget to assume her “dead” sister’s identity, unaware of just how messed up Siobhan’s life secretly is. It doesn’t take long for Andrew to notice that something’s off about his wife. Continue Reading at TV Guide

Boom! Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans may now officially start foaming at the mouth: Sarah Michelle Gellar is coming back to TV, and she’s ready to kick some ass again. Vulture has learned that CBS just gave a pilot greenlight to Ringer, an hourlong thriller that will star the ex-Slayer as a troubled young lass on the run from the mob. She assumes the life of her wealthy twin sister, only to find out that said sibling has a bounty on her head as well. If we’re understanding this right, SMG will actually get to play both roles, which could be all sorts of fun. Ringer is from Supernatural writers Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder; Gellar will serve as a co-executive producer on the project, which is being produced by ABC Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. It’s Gellar’s first TV show since Buffy left the air in 2003. She had been attached to an HBO project that didn’t work out and has mostly been focusing on features in recent years. Source
